POLICE ATTROCITIES AGAINST DEMONSTRATORS DEMANDING BASIC RIGHTS TO DALIT PEOPLE OF UTHAPURAM- MORE THAN 40 INJURED-MORE THA 300 ARRESTED INCLUDING T.K.RENGARAJAN,MP. P.SAMPATH(TNUEF PRESIDENT),SAMUELRAJ(TNUEF GENL.SECRETARY) , N.NANMARAM AND MAHENDRAN MLAs

To uphold the basic rights of dalits in Uthapuram, a demonstration is organised today(12.7.10) before the Collectorate,Madurai was organised by the tamilnadu Untouchability Eradication Front. Coms T.K.Rengarajam,M.P(CPM) P.Sampath(TNUEF President),Samuelraj(TNUEF Genl.Secretary) , N.Nanmaram And Mahendran,MLAs,Annadurai(CPM Dt.Secretary) presided the demonstration.Hundreds of people of Uthapuram and cadres of CPM participated in the demonstration. As the talks before the Collector failed,the demonstrators raised slogans condemning the Govt of TN and District Administration who are in collusion with the upper caste people in denying the basic rights to dalit people of uthapuram and also demanding basic rights to the people of Uthapuram. The Police all of a sudden started lathicharging the demonstrators and the leader are dragged in the street and handled roughly by the police.Nearly 40 persons severely injured and they were admitted in the Govt.Hospital. More than 300 people were arrested includingComs T.K.Rengarajam,M.P(CPM) P.Sampath(TNUEF President),Samuelraj(TNUEF Genl.Secretary) , N.Nanmaram And Mahendran,MLAs,Annadurai(CPM Dt.Secretary)

Thus the Police acted highhandedly in dealing with the demonstrating dalit people and leaders who peacefully collected before the Collectorate and raised slogans. The Govt.of Tamilnadu foul role of crushing the fundamental and basic rights of dalit people is now exposed .The police atrocities is highly condemned.
