PATHWAY TO DALITS IN MADURAI RESTORED

TAMILNADU UNTOUCHABILITY ERADICATION FRONT RESTORED

The pathway Near Police Station of SS Colony of 29th ward in Madurai Corporation, used by the dalit people of Ambedkhar Nagar and Rajiv Gandhi Nagar area was forcibly abrogated by some vested interest people with the help of local police.This 18 feet pathway is situated in Government purampoke lands and is in the use of thousands of dalit people for the last 30 years. The private party who purchased 30 cents of land near this pathway fenced the pathway with the help of corrupt police officials.

On knowing the issue, P.Sampath, State Convener of Tamilnadu Untouchability Eradication Front.N.Nanmaran,MLA od Madurai East Constituency and R.Annadurai ,District Secretary of CPI(M),Madurai Corporation visited the area and held discussion with the dalit people.P.Sampath urged the Government to interfere immediately to stop the encroachment and to restore the pathway to the dalits. N.Nanmaran also wrote to the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu.
The Chief Minister immediately intervened .The District Collector and Police officials visited the spot and restored the pathway to the dalit usage. The Tamilnadu Untouchability Eradication Front thanked the Government and also urged the Government to give pattas to the dalits dwelling in the area
